Day 9: Amantani

Check, check, check, ... We went over our what to take list, thicking every item off, now ready to explore the titicaca lake!

First we were going to visit one of the famous floating islands, but before we could do that we needed to learn some Aymare. Kamisaraki we all said together meaning how are you. Waliki, is the answer, meaning i am fine.
Following this greeting, we got a small workshop on how to build your own floating island, which can be easily done with some reet, nylon and wooden sticks.

On the next island we met our mama, Eudocia. We stayed with her family for 1day. After a short meet and greet and a very good lunch, we went for a hike to a pachapapa (father earth) temple, located at the highest point of the island. Here at 4400m we had a magnificent view over the titicaca lake and its many islands and we were just in time to watch the sunset.

After the walk down it was time for dinner. Which was very tasteful. Then it was time to dress up in the traditional clothing, a poncho with cap for Joachim and a skirt with blouse and scarf for Elien, ready for the traditional party. The party took place in an empty barn, with a band playing acoustic instruments. Here we danced the night away, both tourists and locals alike.
