Day 14: to the summit of ChacaHaya

Today it was time to improve our altitude record! 5430 meter above sea level! A good preparation for the Salcantay trail in 7 days!

We were picked up by our guide at the hostel. Next, we stepped on a rather old bus to drive to the trailhead. The road was very small and next to us an abyss. Joachim was not very comfortable with that. We also heard a loud 'bang' halfway but as the driver nor guide payed attention to it it must have been normal.

We got out the bus and started walking uphill. Because of the altitude we soon felt our heart beating in our chest, time to take a rest and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The sky was almost clear and the view was overwhelming, Titicaca lake in the distance, the highest mountain of Bolivia and huayna potsi. The last one is the mountain you always see appearing before a paramount movie.
When we arrived on the summit the view was even nicer! We could not stop watching the scenery! But there was another lower summit which had even nicer views on the huayna potsi. We used the last of our energy to descend and climb again but it was worth it!

Back at the bus we enjoyed a bag of chips and our energy was refilled!

After a short break, we stepped on the bus, this time we would leave the mountains for what they are and descend into the valley. Here one part of the valley should resemble the lunar landscape, confirmed by Neil Armstrong himself. We arrived at the moon valley and it was time to explore this lunar surface. With increased gravity we walked through this not so barren landscape, here we noted the presence of flowers, cacti and some lizards. There goes our lifeless moon landscape, but nonetheless it was worth it.

After facing La Paz rush hour we arrived back to our hostel. Time for a milkshake and a burger as our late lunch and early dinner.
