Day 4: Perouvian cuisine

At 8.30 we arrived in Arequipa with the night bus. The bus was luxerious but Elien did not sleep wel. After a good breakfast with eggs and bacon she was ready to explore Arequipa.

We wanderd around in this big but peaceful city. The sun was shining, the weather was sweet so we waited on saint fransisco square for a free guided tour to begin.

Carlos, our guide, showed us around in his beautiful city and explained with a lot of entousiasm everything from history to arcitecture to clothing. In Peru baby Alpaca is the way to go. Carlos explained us the difference between Alpaca and Lama and their wild versions. We could feel and compare the fur of the different animals. We went on with the tour and came the a point were you could more or les see the tree vulcanos which surround Arequipa. Here he gave some peruvian dishes we definitely should try. After his explanation we went to try cacao tea, it smelled like chocolate milk but did not tast like it. Next, we went on to tast some extraordenairy patatoes because Peru has 3000 kinds of patatoes! We ended our tour on a rooftop terras tasting Pisco sour, wich was delicious and much better than the one we drank yesterday.
It was a good and interesting tour!

It was late in the afternoon when we arrived in our hotel. Our room consists of not only a king size bed but also a bath! Elien loves taking hot baths!

After washing up, we went to a restaurant for Peruvian speciallities. As a starter we shared the famous guinnea pig. It was delicious! The meat was both tender and tasteful. Elien's main course was of a soup of Alpaca meat with fruit! The soup was rather spicy but it the tastes were very balanced due to the sweet fruits, yum! Joachim chose the roasted pig shoulder crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, accompanied by a honney musterd sauce, which gave the dish its final touch!
So far, We like the Peruvian cuisine!
