Day 26: Bye bye Cusco, Hello Lima

Our final moments in Cusco we decided to explore the city one more last time. After a delicious breakfast, we went to the San Blas square.

Here we took some pictures from the nearby church. Upon arriving at the square we noticed a local  duping nearby tourists. He had a whistle, just like the guards at any Inca ruins, and used it to imply that some tourists were doing something illegal on the square. After whistling he quickly hid the whistle and acted like he knew nothing. The startled tourist were looking where it came from and with a huge grin he walked past them. The old rascal, he could have joined the program "Benidorm Bastards".

We continued our path in the direction of plaza del Armas, when we suddenly came across two familiar faces, Sven and Kirsten with whom we walked the Salkantay trail just a few days earlier. Coincidentally we were headed in the same direction so this made up for a sudden goodbye two days earlier when we had to leave the bus abruptly. At the chocolate museum we had to say goodbye, and after a hug we ready to go our separate ways.

The chocolate museum, Elien was already longing for some chocolate, so we headed to the entrance, eager to get our hands on some Peruvian chocolates! However, we were a bit too early and had to wait half an hour. So we went to the nearby square and got our shoes polished, which were in dire need for some cleaning. Now with our shiny shoes we entered the chocolate museum and tasted some of the local specialities.

At this point we were ready to leave Cusco, 2 hours in advance we checked in our flight. The representative of the travel agency asked us if we wanted to be on an earlier flight, which would leave in 45 minutes. "Of course" we said, and soon we were on the plane ready for take off. But then...as the plane took off, we were experiencing a lot of turbulence, like we have never experienced before. Clenching to the armrests of our seats, we hoped for the best and that changing flights wouldn't be our deaths. I wouldn't be writing this if we did not safely land in Lima, luckily!

Lima, we missed you, or did we? After getting ripped off by another taxi driver we were dropped off at our hotel. I guess we looked espacially gringo today. But our luck was about to change, we checked in and got a suite, with a large bathtub, just what we needed. Now ready to explore Lima with some sun, we went for a stroll by the beach, watched the surfers battling the waves.  We finnished our day with dinner at the Haiti restaurant by the Kennedy square.
