Day 13: La plas

We started the day with an extensive breakfast buffet after which we started our city tour.
Our guide arrived at spanish time (15 min late) and we could start our tour. The city was today especially dirty as everything reeked of beer and urine due to the festivities yesterday. First we visited san Francisco square with the beautiful colonial church. Afterwards we went to the outskirts of the city located at the upper rim of the valley, with an excellent view on the city beneath. We therefore took a local bus, a experience of its own.

After looking around and saying 'buenos dias' a lot of times we took the bus to the colonial suburb, this was closed due to the presidents presence. But we looked enough like peaceful tourists so the soldiers made an exception. The square was quiet and peaceful without the honking cars around. Here we enjoyed more of the colonial architecture among which the presidential palace, the cathedral and the congress building. After taking in the sights and the many pigeons we continued in the direction of some more colonial style buildings. But first it was time for a snack at one of the local shops. Here we had some kind of pastry with soup inside, it was delicious. Subsequently, we went on, this time to visit the houses of two revolutionaries, jaen and murriollo. We also past a original shop with products made by a jungle tribe, souvenir time!  

We continued to the witch market. Here  medical herbs were sold and across the street you could find ingredients fit for all your spells ranging from toucan beaks to lama foetuses. This was our city tour, for tomorrow we reserved a trip into the mountains, where we will walk to the summit of a 5600m mountain. 

After that Elien wanted to take a picture of the typical derby women wear around here. Except this was harder than we had thought. Either the women turned away from the camera or wanted money for the picture. So Elien started to behave like a wildlife photographer. Hiding and observing, armed with a camera on burst mode but also this had just moderate success.
